Capoiera with the Manns

Standard

Yes we are all trying out everything that the universe has to offer us.

We started our capoiera journey. It’s always better when your teacher has passion in what he does.

As they call him Mastre  (that’s the master teacher of Capoiera). We met him at his teaching grounds.

2 hours of training and learning the history behind Capoiera was so much fun for our family.

Capoiera reminds me of our dance in some of our Ghanaian culture. The Adowa dance and the Ewe dance.

We got to play drums and learn some great moves.

Journey to Rio

Standard

What a journey to remember for sure…
So marcus decided it’s best he gets to Rio at least a couple of days before we do so he can scope out our apartment.
Thank God I agreed to that.

Well so the kids and I set off to Rio and super excited.

We  flew to maimi then to Columbia. Now thats when I consider the beginning of our south America journey.

Now I am a foreigner….they speak Spanish and I had no clue, but with the help of Google translate I was able to get dinner for the kids and I. But the challenges really started when I got to my gate at avianca.

They told me I can’t get on the flight because I am not booked to be on there…as I was mad and complaining I watched my flight to Rio take off.

Well what I can say now is I will think twice before flying avianca again. With all our travels this was our first airport sleeping moment for us.

So after 24hours of staying in the airport we finally got on our rio flight and made it safely to rio.

So grateful for our safe arrival….but rio is super HOT…

More to come on Rio for the Manns clan

Happy Holidays

Standard

We are all enjoying our  new country life style here in Bassett Virginia. One thing that the kids and I are so looking forward to is a little bit of snow that can allow us to be outside playing in the snow and drawing angels.

But with this weather pattern seem like we might be running out of luck…with christmas around the corner there is still a chance of magic I guess. The weather here in Bassett is been about 76 degrees and its so beautiful and hot and kids are in shorts and tank tops.

While preparing for the beautiful up coming holidays we are also preparing for our upcoming adventures of travelling to South American ( Brazil, Chilli and Argentina).

We have been able to apply for our Brazil visa’s and as you will know it comes with lots of paper prining and photocopying lots of documents. But we made it all happen and we should be recieving our visa’s in 2 weeks.

Looking forward to what our next explorations will teach us…. the past year I have trully learned so much, even how to co- exist with teenagers since now I have 2 of them with me….

Virginia Exploration Continues

Country life in Bassett Virginia

Standard

So our country life in Bassett Virginia is going very well with so many adventures and exploring going on in our family.

The kids and I have not spent Thanksgiving day in the states before so this year we made it a point to do that.  And it was just beautiful to be able to have a day set aside to just give thanks and eat and laugh and tell stories.

This year the kids great grandmother  (we call her Mama Ruby and she is 84yrs and looks amazing)  told us stories about her youth and she also made us lots of food cooked with love. Soul food is what Americans call her food.

Here are a few pictures of our adventures

Road Trip to Washington DC

Standard

With homeschooling comes awesome benefits as this weekend we decided to take a long weekend trip to Washington DC to say farewell to Marcus Uncle who had passed away.

We packed up the kids and set off on a 6 hours road trip from Bassett Virginia to Washington DC.

While there we decided to make it extra special by meeting and visiting most of our families that live around the area. It was such a lovely weekend just seeing all the kids meet their cousins and aunties and uncles and sharing our travel explorations with them all.

After our family meet ups we decided to return back to bassett on sunday….then it clicked that we are homeschooling our kids so a little history classes on the road can be more exciting so we stated in DC one more night and visited the Whitehouse and also the monuments in the DC area. It was really worth missing the school book works.

image

Our arrival started when we visited Marcus grand aunt (grandmother’s oldest sister) she is 101yrs old and she is such a delight to be around. The wisdom she has to share with us….at that age she still rock.

Family all set and ready to go and pay their last respect to marcus Uncle.

United States Exploration continues…

Our Large Family

Standard

So I am sure a lot of our love ones and readers are wondering why I have not blogged lately….well…we are still enjoying the country side in Bassett Virginia.

We will be here in Virginia for the next 3 months before we make our way to Brazil for the 2nd year of our 5yrs travels.

While in Virginia we started our homeschool year… it’s not easy but the fruits of homeschooling our kids is worth it all.

We have 2 9th graders, 1 6th grader, 1 3rd grader ( but she is in school ) and 1 kindergarten boy.

I am sure you are wondering how we keep saying we have 5 kids but we homeschool 4 kids and 1 is in school, and also we traveling with 4 kids instead of 5kids.
Well our 8 yr old Karama (whose picture is below) has a genetic disorder (she is allergic to lots of things) so we have decided has her parents to allow her stay in an environment that she can be cared for by her doctors if and when the need arise. Karama stays with Marcus parents here in Virginia and she is the princess of this country side as she is loved to the max and gets her way all the time….lol!!!

image

That’s me and our 4th girl Karama she was all ready to go and watch sesame street show…

So with all our travels we have missed Karama in our pictures and adventures. But she is also having her own adventures here in the country and she is loving it all.

We hope that in the future she will be able to join us in one of the countries.

Now when our family arrive in Bassett we love to make sure we create memories for every family member we meet. And this time around we decided to take Marcus parents to the movies….yeap…Marcus Father has not been to the movies since the last time I took him which was about 8yrs ago. And marcus mom has not since last year when I went with her.

So we set out on a night adventure of movie night. We went to watch spectre….not my favorite movie but it’s the energy of the whole family out at night is what makes it super fun.

image

All set and ready to go out for the movie night

Our family is so large we turn to fill up the whole seats at the movies…lol!!

image

Two thumbs up…you know who the camera man was….it was marcus…

So being in the country has its pros and cons….the pros are Marcus got to teach the girls how to drive….yeyyy…our oldest who is 14yrs old started her driving lesson last week and she is enjoying every bit of it. While mj our 6yr old also learn how to drive the go-kart.

image

Destiny learning to drive….

image

Even though she has gotten bigger for me to carry her…she still loves to lay on me and just have a mommy cuddle time…

image

My life is filled with so much cuddles and lots of tickles….

image

Travelling means not being able to have a stable workout program at a particular gym…so while in Virginia. Our whole family joined the Y and I am loving all the programs they offer. One of the classes I love is call HIT (High intensity training). So staying fit if important for our family and marcus and I are the examples for our kids.

image

Hard work pays off….confidence is my price

image

This one was hard but I needed to keep it up…and it felt right after…what’s your excuse? My is I want to be able to hang out with my fast growing teenagers….

image

It’s really exciting when you get to have such a beautiful and loving mother in law that you two get to workout together and stay fit together. We are at a Zumba class….she got her weights and ready to get fit.

image

Me and my awesome mother in law and my beautiful and smart niece….I adore this two souls to the max.

image

This might be the last lift….lol!! Our princess is getting too tall…

image

We are one proud parents seeing our tow older girls bond to the max….sisters for life.

It’s all dry leaves in our backyard….

I feel amazingly awesome….at 36yrs old and still living it up for all my love one and friends.

Our daughters are becoming little inspired artist…

Aasha our 12 yrs old new way of seeing a pencil and a blank paper is to draw a one eye lady….very talented…

Ok so now you are in the loop of how the Manns clan are doing…we are enjoying the country life.

Our Last Night in Kuala Lumpur

Standard

Wow…what an awesome experience of travelling as we complete the first year of our adventures.

Today is our last night to that twin towers view and also our new LLF’S  (Life Long Friends ).

We never say goodbye to them thanks to tango and whatsapp….LOL!!!

For our last night we spent it with our Malaysian friends Sara and her husband Sajad and their cute boy Razmiq who calls me mummy…

We will miss them all so much but with the Manns clan you never know when the wind will blow us back to Malaysia again so stay put and stay in touch.

Oh…and here is the funny thing…for our last supper my kids asked if we could have dinner at pizza Hut….such a weird thing to ask for since we are actually going to the land of pizza hut…lol!!!

Well their not so all the time request and wish was granted and we had a tasty crusty flaky pizza and enjoyed every single bite…

Well we say Goodnight Kuala Lumpur and Good afternoon Bassett Virginia.

image

Great families we have made across the globe.

image

Just a few of our 12 check in bags…for 1 year I think I have done very well not accumulating a whole lot….we started our trip with 10 bags and now we have 12….and 6 passengers…so not bad at all…LOL!!!!
