While in Cape Town we spent most of our days at the waterfront mall. It was very close to our apartment, so we mostly walked there for the day. There is so much to see and do at the waterfront.

And one of them is the Ferris Wheel ride. My kids are ok with heights but I am not the most fun person when I am not on the ground…LOL!!! I think after our Cape Town trip my family is aware now and understands. Will tell you more of my up high experiences in my other blogs so stay tuned.

So We got on the Ferris Wheel and My kids are all super happy and just enjoying being wayyyyy up in the sky…I had to act brave but Lord knows I was about to pass out….LOL!!

pictures below show how Aasha my 2nd daughter was acting scared just to make mommy feel better knowing that am not alone in this…LOL!!

Christmas Cape Town Style

Standard

With great families we had such a wonderful christmas in Cape Town. We spent the whole day at Dr. Greg’s parents house.

Dr. Greg’s parents live in Fishhook. So we got on the train and its about an hour train ride to Fishhook. When we arrived at The train station Greg’s father and Alley, Greg’s wife picked us up at the train station.

They live about 5min away from the train station. It was very nice of them to invite us to their home on this special christmas day.

The kids got to put up a christmas tree at their home. Julie was so sweet to have arranged a cute tree so that the kids can have that feel of  putting up the Christmas tree tradition going ( In Ghana we will usually put up this 7ft tall tree and decorate the whole house) so this really was special for our family and Julie made that happen for our kids while on the road. Thanks Julie.

We got to sit around and share gifts and laughs after we had a very tasty meal…We are so grateful for Dr. Greg’s family for cooking all this food and also making our christmas in a new country very special.

We spent the whole day at their home. In the Evening they dropped us off at the train station and we headed back into town and went to The Waterfront to have our christmas dinner there.

We had dinner at ocean basket that night. It was super packed with people waiting to get seated but I wanted to eat sushi so we tried to wait until we get a seat and finally we got a seat. So over all we had a very wonderful day as the pictures below will tell it all.

Finally A HighTea Experience

Standard

So I clearly remember when our friends in Cape Town mentioned to me that we are going to a HighTea lunch….I was not sure what It meant and so I asked them what is HighTea? I know what Tea is, because in Ghana my home country mostly tea is our breakfast not lunch…LOL!!!

So they explained to me that it’s actually a menu filled with sweets like scones and muffins and small tiny salmon sandwiches and you get to drink Tea with it.

So I said well why not. You will think with Cape Town being so Hot at that time slush should be the drink we would be having but hey am rolling with people who knows what is happening.

So I got picked up by our friends (Joey and Maria) and we drove around the beaches of Seapoint and straight to a place called The 12 Apostles. It was definitely a beautiful place set up on the top, so you can have an amazing view of the blue waters and the shoreline….It was really lovely.

We got there and was served with all the treats you can imagine….on a 3 tier server( I hope that’s what they call it), they  served us with some tea that we get to choose from. Lots of varieties.

But I had to have another type of Drink to take it to the next level…It’s High Tea moment and I have to make the best of it.

Am told in the British community having a High Tea is a very normal daily activity. So I can now comfortably say I have experience the British style of living…right here in Southern part of Africa.

I had such an amazing time with Long life friends and will always cherish that HighTea moment.

Thanks you my amazing friends…

Family Visit to the Chiropractors Office

Standard

“Nature Needs No Help, Just No Interference”

While Travelling Marcus ( who is a very passionate Chiropractor himself ) knows the benefits of getting our spines checked and subluxation free.

So while we where in Cape Town we made it a point to go and visit our favorite Chiropractor. Dr. Greg Venning at Peak Chiropractic in Claremont.

We will take the train 3 times a week to go and get checked. It was one of our favorite things to do, train ride and then getting our adjustment in.

We are so grateful for Dr. Greg and his team for all our adjustments while in Cape Town.

In the pictures below you will see us filling out our forms to get started. Also you will see Dr. Greg giving us a few minutes of his time to take a photo with us.

The process of filling out the forms for our family was an adventure on its own since we are a family of 6. But we got all the kids to fill out their forms by themselves and they did very well.

If you do visit Cape Town and you need a super-duper Chiropractor then just call Peak Chiropractic and Dr. Greg will be happy to get you aligned.

Fitness On the GO

Standard

With Our 5 yrs global travels, we have to make sure to stay fit and one of the ways we get that done is by visiting all the free outside gyms in Cape Town.

One of our favorite outside gym was the one on the promenade at Seapoint. With the ocean breeze and beautiful sight to see, going there to exercise was super fun all the time.

Also we loved going to the one at Green point Park which had a huge park that the kids can run wild while Marcus and I get our workout done.

And remember all this outside gym and parks are free for everyone who want  to come and stay fit while having fun.

Here are some pictures of me getting my workout in during a sunny day.fitness 1 fitness 2 fitness 3 fitness 4

Visit to Charly’s Bakery

Standard

If you have met me before then you will definately know that I am a foodnet work addict….I love cooking and all about food experiement.

When I I was in Ghana my home town. In our house we did not watch Tv purposely for a great reason. With all our kids we did not want anyone influencing them through the means of TV. Until I found out from my friend Kari who told me that there is Foodnet work on DSTV…..I was so excited so the next week I spent my time convincing my husband why we should get a DSTV. I even came up with the idea that if I have the DSTV and able to watch FoodNet Work then I can cook him a lot more tasty meals. So he finally agreed and We go DSTV.

With My DSTV on and Foodnet work channel up I was in haven most of my days…..it was exactly what I wanted and was just so grateful for it.

So I got into some programs that I loved watching and one of them was Charly’s Bakery….with 3 ladies in action baking and creating cakes that is out of this world. I related with that show because I had my 3 old girls at that time and thought since they love to cook maybe they can start a charly’s angels restaurant. So we all love this show and watched it all the time.

I had no idea it was in Cape Town until I was researching online things to do in Cape Town and there it was Charly’s bakery in Cape Town…..oh, I knew I will have to visit and We did.

It was not what I expected with the decor of the place But it was packed with people trying to get a taste of their bakery.

So if you do visit Cape Town, do make it a point to visit Charly’s Bakery. Its very easy to find and make sure to taste their double chocolate brownie….

Our visit to the Planeterium was an amazing experience.

We could not believe how they where able to make the animals look so real.

At one point I was scared because it looked way too real to be dummies.

But the kids absolutly loved the experience.

We took their life long friend Leah and it was a great day.

pictures are below….hope it does not scare you…LOL!!!

Visit To The Aquarium

Standard

With our travels and homeschooling our kids….having field day trips to the Aquarium is always a must.

While In Cape Town we really did a lot of field trips and the Cape Town inside Aquarium was one of our most memorable and cherished moment since our 2nd daughter Aasha is an animal lover and since she started learning how to talk she always said she will have an animal home one day when she grows up. So while in this countries we will always and almost visit an animal home.

The Aquarium day was super fun. We did the package. So at the gate where you pay to get in, they will ask if you want to do the boat ride and also get your tour for the aquarium. My advice is do that package. You will do the boat ride first which will take you far and you will get to see some dolphins if its your lucky day. super exciting for the kids. After the boat ride we return to the aquarium and began our tour. The pictures below will tell you how much fun we had on that adventure.

So if you do visit Cape Town make it a point to visit the Aquarium at the Water front.

Trip to the 2nd Largest Slums in The World, Kibera Nairobi

Standard

On this day….coming from Ghana I thought we had slums…so I was not too excited about the journey ( I was under the impression that Kibera is like Nima, a community in Ghana).

The Journey started at the Java cafe at Junction Mall where we got to meet our host who was taking us there. Very fun and exciting lady she was.

She gave us some papers and asked that we learn a basic song that we can sing while visiting the place. So we did and it was interesting because the song was in Swahili language which my family and I have no idea how to even start a conversation with anyone.

So after the song learning moment we left and headed to Kibera, it was not very far from all the luxury apartments at all….It was a shocker to us how close the slums are from this nice places.

When we got there we had to be accompanied by an armed police officer ( now in Ghana you don’t have to have a armed officer accompany you to Nima ) So that was a weird feeling for us . And when I asked why they said because its not a safe environment for foreigners to be in.

So the journey began and we walked about 25 min to the exact location which was a school that has 500 kids for a building that I think should only have 50 kids. I was very sad and at the same time very grateful for my blessings.

while there our girls taught the kids at the school some basic self defense moves and also we got to speak and motivate them that this should not be their future….they must dream big and shoot for the sky.

One thing my family and I noticed was that this kids are happy and smiling all over the place and very content with their current situation.

Oh and most of this kids don’t have a home, their parents died and so the lady who opened the school has made it like a home. about 100 kids in a room, its the size of my 3 kids bedroom. It brought tears to our eyes and my girls got to see what life could be. But this children at the school are very grateful with the little they have. Also found out some of the kids have HIV and staying there is much better because they can be taking care of.

One of the ways the lady who opened the school is able to support the school was to train the older girls some sewing skills. And so all the kids uniforms are sewn in the school and also they have a small shop that they sell the things that they sew. So I decided to make a nice shopping day out of it. I bought a couple of African handmade skirts and also some bags.

After our tour around the small compound filled with so many lovely kids our host at the school had prepared some Kenyan dishes for us to have for lunch. Truly grateful for that.

It was a trip that we really enjoyed and will always remember.

If you do visit Nairobi please find a way to visit Kibera you will love the journey through the slums

Getting around in Nairobi

Standard

Well with us travelling and not spending a whole lot of time in each country we decided to just use local transportation while in Nairobi and in the other countries we visit.

So before we arrived in Nairobi I decided to research on the best way of moving around.

They have what is considered the cheapest ride which is the Matatu ( its a 8-12 passenger van that everyone going towards the same direction will get on and can get off when they reach their destination so like a shared ride). Now I have not tried riding that one yet because in my home country Ghana we have it also and its called Trotro, and I have being on them before so not so much of an excitement to get on while in Nairobi. And also they drive recklessly. So all the best if you decide to try it out.

The next one that is very new to me is called Border Border and basically its a bike rider. its very very reasonable and with the traffic in Nairobi it actually is a fun and nice ride for short distance. They charge around KSH 100 ( $1) for most short distance trips. And they give you helmet and a reflector to put on…. I like that because it gets me to my destination faster….

Then there is Easy Taxi, its an app that you can download and you request for a ride. ( I think they can do better with the App) But I used it for a while and still uses it on and off. prices are minimum of $3 for all short distance. But the drivers seem never to be available when you need them. And I end up cancelling a lot of my taxi ride that I request. and also even though the easy Taxi tariff is on the app the drivers still try to negotiate because after the trip you pay them directly. with us not having our own car going to short distance and paying $3 all the time can add up so the border border is our best option without the kids.

The other option is just a regular Taxi that is not registered with easy Taxi. But their prices are almost the same, but with regular taxi you can negotiate with the driver. So what I do is that I check the tariff on easy Taxi then when I pick the regular taxi I am able to negotiate to a reasonable price.

Then the more fancy option which we usually will take  when Marcus and I are on a date night because the cars are much nicer and the drivers are more knowledgeable. its UBer Taxi. We used UBer a lot while in Cape Town but In Kenya we realized its time to find a cheaper route. And with Uber we had to use a credit card which was also being charged international fee. so for a trip that cost us $3 now will have to charge another fee for international usage of the credit card. And we wanted to use our debit card but Uber does not allow debit card usage. So that’s why we only use UBer for our date nights just to have a more romantic evening in a nicer ride…

Now If you are coming to Nairobi, one advice I will give you is make sure from the airport Change your cash, buy a new phone chip ( its like $5 or less) and load your cash onto MPESA. That will save you some stress because in Nairobi everyone from the road side coconut seller to the high end hotels all accepts MPESA. It’s like having your money saved on your phone. its safe and very reliable money exchange services
